Jayleen Beedle is nineteen years
old and has been running boats
by herself since she was eleven.
Her and her family (dad, mom and
brother) live remote and off the
grid on Shelter Island, roughly
eight miles from Auke Bay dock.
When she turned eleven her dad
bought her a 16' Crestliner Skiff
and said, "If you want to go to
town, you have to bring yourself."
So she did.

She is Captain Marv's only daughter and began working as a
naturalist on board his whale watching boat eight years ago.
Over this past winter she got her captains licences and was
hired on full time as a Harv and Marv's captain.
She just completed her first year at University of Southeast
Alaska. She hopes to graduate with a degree in both
Photojournalism and English.
Her hobbies include: fishing, hunting (mainly for deer), wildlife
photography, reading books and watching BBC movies.
